About
Established in 2025, Fripon’s first endeavour is to bring the light back to the somewhat mythical Filosof Lamp, created by the notorious architect Lars-Erik Ejlers (1948–2024).
Lars-Erik Ejlers was not like most people and certainly not like most architects. Restless by nature, he was constantly engaged in new projects spanning a wide range of fields. He revived Restaurant Lumskebugten from near ruin, founded the booking bureau “GOOD MUSIC,” and created numerous graphic posters and artworks. This restless energy meant that the Filosof Lamp became the only design object he ever fully realised.
Lars-Erik Ejlers created the Filosof Lamp in 1990 for Restaurant Cap Horn, which at the time was owned and run by mother and daughter Lise and Camilla Plum. The Filosof Lamp is a compact pendant featuring a characteristic brass shade inspired by a cymbal, a copper shade, and a black anodised cylindrical shade mimicking a camera lens . The Filosof Lamp was launched with the confident slogan, “A new classic sees the light of day,” and has since become something of a mythical classic due to its long history of a rather rare and highly personal distribution.
Lars-Erik Ejlers carried the lamp with him wherever he went, from the bar at Hotel D’Angleterre to Holstein Bodega, turning Copenhagen’s nightlife into his personal showroom. To own a Filosof Lamp was to own a piece of a story, as it was often purchased directly from him during a late-night visit to a city bar, making it both rare and iconic.
Lars-Erik Ejlers was a fripon, a trickster, who paid little attention to the consequences of his actions, yet always brought originality to the table.
FRIPON now carries his vision forward, bringing the Filosof Lamp back to shine in modern spaces.
